Dr. Kappelman is a pediatric gastroenterologist and health services researcher with a focus on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He is a Professor of Pediatrics and an adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to clinical care, he is actively engaged in clinical and comparativeness effectiveness research that uses real-world data and patient reported outcomes to evaluate the risks and benefits of treatments used in everyday clinical practice. His work also focuses on the use of quality improvement strategies to incorporate new knowledge into practice.
