Dr. Moawad is the medical director of the Ambulatory Surgical Center at Scripps Clinic, Anderson Medical Pavilion, in La Jolla and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, where he received his medical degree. He completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and served 13 years in the Army before starting at Scripps Clinic.

While at Walter Reed, he worked as director of gastrointestinal research and the motility and reflux testing lab. His clinical interests are in esophageal and gut motility disorders, while his research focuses on esophageal conditions, particularly eosinophilic esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease and the complex interaction between the two conditions.
